Health Concerns: Mold can release allergenic substances and mycotoxins that may cause health issues in individuals with mold sensitivities or compromised immune systems. It can lead to respiratory problems, allergies, skin irritation, and other health-related concerns.

Keeping Your Home Mold-Free: Our Proven Steps for Prevention
11/23/2023 (Permalink)
Drying moisture exposed areas to prevent mold
At SERVPRO, we understand the importance of a mold-free home for your well-being and peace of mind. We've seen the devastating effects that mold can have on properties and, more importantly, on the health of those living in them. That's why we want to share some of our proven steps for mold prevention that you can take in your own home.
1. Control Moisture Levels:
Mold thrives in damp environments, so controlling moisture is key to preventing mold growth. Regularly inspect your home for leaks, and promptly repair any plumbing issues, roof leaks, or foundation cracks. Ensure that your home is properly ventilated, especially in areas like the bathroom, kitchen, and basement, where moisture is more prevalent.
2. Maintain Proper Ventilation:
Proper ventilation is essential in mold prevention. Use exhaust fans in the kitchen and bathroom to reduce humidity levels. Consider installing a dehumidifier in areas with high moisture, like basements or crawl spaces. Adequate ventilation helps to keep the air circulating, preventing moisture buildup.
3. Monitor Indoor Humidity:
Keep an eye on indoor humidity levels. Ideally, indoor humidity should be between 30% and 50%. You can use a hygrometer to measure humidity in your home. If levels consistently exceed 50%, it's time to take action to reduce moisture and prevent mold growth.
4. Regular Cleaning and Maintenance:
Regular cleaning not only keeps your home looking great but also helps prevent mold. Dust and vacuum your home regularly to remove potential mold spores. Pay special attention to areas that are prone to moisture, like bathrooms and kitchens, and clean and dry these areas thoroughly.
5. Address Water Intrusion Promptly:
If your home experiences water intrusion, whether from a leaky roof, burst pipe, or flooding, it's crucial to address it promptly. Remove standing water and thoroughly dry affected areas within 24-48 hours to prevent mold from taking hold. Consult with professionals if needed.
6. Use Mold-Resistant Products:
Consider using mold-resistant building materials and paints in areas where moisture is prevalent, such as bathrooms and kitchens. These products are designed to inhibit mold growth and can be a valuable addition to your mold prevention strategy.
7. Properly Store and Ventilate Items:
Items stored in damp or poorly ventilated areas, such as basements or attics, can become moldy over time. Store items in plastic containers or elevated off the ground to prevent moisture exposure. Properly ventilate storage areas to reduce humidity.
8. Inspect and Maintain Your HVAC System:
Regularly inspect and maintain your HVAC system, including cleaning and changing filters as recommended. A well-maintained HVAC system can help regulate humidity levels and improve air quality, reducing the risk of mold growth.
9. Keep Gutters and Downspouts Clean:
Clogged gutters and downspouts can lead to water buildup on your roof and around your home's foundation. Clean them regularly to ensure proper drainage, preventing water from seeping into your home and causing mold issues.
10. Seek Professional Help When Needed:
If you suspect mold growth in your home or have experienced significant water damage, it's essential to seek professional assistance. SERVPRO's certified technicians have the expertise and equipment to assess, remediate, and prevent mold issues effectively.
Remember, mold prevention is an ongoing effort. By following these steps and staying vigilant, you can create a healthier and mold-free living environment for you and your family. Dehumidifying Your Pensacola Home- SERVPRO Solutions Explained
9/25/2023 (Permalink)
SERVPRO crew called out to inspect mold and water damage in home.
When you live in Northwest Florida, humidity is inevitable. The warm weather we enjoy so much is saturated by a significant amount of water, which generates the excessive moisture around you. While many fear what the humidity means for their hair or their skin, have you thought about what it means for your home?
In humid climates, homes run serious risk of damage from collecting all of the moisture the air carries. A common result of high humidity levels in your home is mold. Mold grows quickly in warm, damp conditions and can fester into an entire colony within 24 hours of their spores attaching themselves to surfaces and feeding. As mold grows and spreads throughout your home, allergens and irritants are released into the air which creates a dangerous situation for you and your family. The allergens and irritants can become toxic, causing respiratory problems and other health issues.
That’s why it’s critically important to take steps in preventing mold growth in the first place. We recommend starting with a dehumidifier for your home. Using a dehumidifier will help you maintain optimal humidity levels that are both healthy and comfortable. Running fans, and checking on your HVAC system will also help keep the humidity down. Make sure everything is running smoothly and functioning properly to help circulate air flow, and if you need help with an inspection you can always call SERVPRO of Downtown and North Pensacola. We’ll also help check your vents, filters, and make sure everything is in good working condition.
If you do discover mold growing in your home, it should be dealt with immediately - it can be harmful to your home and your health. Call SERVPRO of Downtown and North Pensacola at 850-466-3076 and our quick response team will be there to begin the mold remediation process right away.

Because of this, taking every possible precaution to prevent water damage to your home is imperative. Follow these steps to better guard yourself, and your home, against the headaches of avoidable water damage:
- Clean out roof gutters regularly. A clogged roof gutter does not allow rainwater to flow to the street; instead it can cause water to back up into your roof and walls. This, over time, can not only damage the structural components of the residence, but also create the perfect conditions for mold growth.
- Check appliances for leaks. Refrigerators, dishwashers, and washing machines all have hoses that if damaged or punctured can produce a large amount of water in a short amount of time. Often these leaks will go undetected, as they are hidden by the appliance itself, but can cause serious damage to surrounding flooring and walls.
- Maintain your landscaping. Many trees have root systems that can spread underneath home foundations and affect plumbing systems. A leak below your home’s foundation can cause serious structural damages.
- Take care of your plumbing. Regularly check for any leaks or pipe corrosion. Consult with a professional plumber if you suspect your plumbing is out of date or damaged.
In the unfortunate event that you do experience a residential water damage, know that SERVPRO of Northwest Escambia County is Here to Help. Our team is available for emergency response 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Give us a call at 850-466-3089, We’re Faster to Any Size Disaster!

Commercial Water Damage Restoration for Your Pensacola Restaurant
2/22/2023 (Permalink)
Water restoration experts at SERVPRO service water damage at Downtown Pensacola cafe.
Your restaurant in Pensacola has an assortment of essential plumbing needs which need attention. If you fail to meet these needs, it can have catastrophic consequences because the plumbing can experience significant clogs or other disruptive and damaging problems. Even though these issues can be severe, it is not uncommon for the senior members of management and the owners to be ill-informed about the necessary steps which can be taken to avoid potentially significant problems with plumbing.
Commercial water damage issues in your Pensacola restaurant are a huge hassle. It can stop your normal daily operations depending on the severity of the problem, and that means lost profits for you as the owner. At SERVPRO we understand this, we won’t hesitate to get to your business as soon as you contact us. As professional remediation specialists, we have the training and tools needed to get your business back up and running quickly.
If there is any standing water when we arrive, we use truck-mounted pumps to extract as much as possible, then use industrial fans and dehumidifiers to get the affected area dry again. If the damage is confined to a smaller area and you were able to keep your doors open to the public, we always work respectfully around you and your customers so we cause as little disruption as we can.
The sewer line is a part of your plumbing system which can be most prone to problems. It is wise to clean it out every few years. When it becomes clogged, it can contribute to the whole plumbing system of your restaurant getting backed up and causing flooding. The best way to avoid this potential issue is having the sewer line cleaned professionally. It can be done in a few hours during times your restaurant is closed, so you do not disrupt your operations.
Your restaurant’s plumbing is especially prone to clogs and other problems from large amounts of grease which can enter the plumbing from cooking utilities or washing dishes. Therefore, minimizing how much grease enters the plumbing is essential. Installing grease traps is a wise investment to make, as they help intercept any grease which accidentally enters the drain. The traps should be cleaned and emptied regularly to keep them functional.
Toilets can be another source of problems for any business that is open to the public. Installing high-capacity toilets can reduce the potential of them becoming clogged because these toilets use more water to flush.
SERVPRO of Downtown and North Pensacola knows that when your business is experiencing a water damage emergency that time is of the essence. Call us right away so we can come and assist you in fixing the issue and cleaning up your restaurant and getting you back in business.
When it Comes to Solutions, The Right Crew and Company is Key!
9/14/2022 (Permalink)
SERVPRO team leaders in North Pensacola utilize extensive experience to serve the storm victims of the panhandle.
Calling the right crew can be a game changer both financially and for your productivity. If you need solutions NOW, you need to be SERVed by a team ready and able to meet your needs ASAP. We know the importance of performing water cleanup to crawl spaces for North Pensacola residents.
Flooding is always a persistent threat to homes and businesses in coastal areas, as the city often falls in line with storms making landfall from the Atlantic Ocean or the Gulf of Mexico. Heavy storms and strong winds can be damaging enough, but substantial rainfall over days can cause groundwater flooding in various ways. Oversaturated earth cannot absorb rain, and it can sit on the surface and pool until it becomes a hazardous situation.
Flood from groundwater under affected homes can threaten areas like the crawlspace of residences. This open area beneath a structure can be the ideal installation point for utility connections like the water and gas. Because this is a hub for your in-house services, addressing North Pensacola area flood damage is critical to protect these fixtures and exposed structural elements supporting the house. When standing water exists underneath the house, there are several strategies to dry up the area.
Extraction
Groundwater extraction is more complicated and problematic than removing standing water inside the house. Instead of electric submersible pumps that can continually remove volumes of water quickly and quietly, our SERVPRO professionals must utilize more powerful equipment like gas-powered trash pumps and engine-driven truck-mount pumps.
Drying
Drying up the lingering moisture in the area is the only way to address potential threats like mold and microbial growth. Lingering dampness can feel active spores in this environment to use organic materials like wood framing and supports to colonize. With centrifugal air movers carefully positioned, we can begin universal evaporative drying for the entire damaged space. We can also assess at this time if any reconstruction or other build back needs exist for your residence before we conclude restoration.
Flooding can often be one of the most damaging situations for homes and businesses in the area. Even if the standing water is underneath your home in the crawlspace, you might still be at risk for the effects that this elevated moisture and humidity can cause. No matter how we can help.
Reach out to our team today and find out why our technicians are your solution.
SERVPRO Cares: DIY Tactics for Damage Prevention.
9/13/2022 (Permalink)
SERVPRO Crew Pulls Together to Educate the Community on Prevention Tactics that Can SAVE.
When it comes to experts, we are it! Still, there are times where you may be able to remedy restoration issues, and you deserve to know how to do just that when you can.
Storm damages, sewer line bursts, pipes leakage and other water damaging scenarios can cause really serious, long-term consequences. This damage can be toxic and cause mold growth. To avoid this, and other long-lasting complications, you can try the steps below on your own.
Timing is a huge factor in the success of DIY tactics. The sooner you can act, the better. This helps prevent a worsening issue and even more health challenges to you, your family and co-workers. From the moment you notice signs, get moving ASAP for best results.
The first thing you should do is disconnect the outlets in the area.
Water and electricity can be a fatal combination, so make sure to disconnect all outlets the moment you discover water damage in your home. Even if it is not apparent that high impact damages are in store, the first step MUST always be this one. If this step is not prioritized, and you go into the home without disconnecting the outlets, electrical shock explosions can take place.
The next thing to do is to check for mold in the area. As most know, mold thrives in moist spaces, so taking the time to inspect the entire home or building immediately is key. Here are a few common signs to look for:
- The prevalence of a musty, earthy smell
- Darkening of the grout in your shower tiles
- Wallpaper peeling
- Dark or colored spots on your walls
Most obviously, it’s important to dry the water out!
Also was dry asap to prevent the damage from worsening. Leaving still water in any spaces, for any period of time, is a haven for germs and bacteria- weakening the structure of your home. A few ways that you can do this are using fans, dehumidifiers to dry out walls and carpets as well.
Another thing you can do on your own is remove any damaged items. All too often, water damage will wreak havoc on the items inside the home as well. It’s important to inspect furniture, carpet, flooring, drywall and other items that are of no use and are holding moisture ongoing.
The last DIY tactic we recommend is to disinfect!
Even if it seems a small area has the damage, you can’t be certain that bacteria has not reached other areas. We use the “better safe than sorry” method here and always suggest sanitizing the property with bleach as quickly as possible.
If you attempt some or all of the above, and you are still not reaching a remedy stage, calling our crew in is a sure bet to getting a solution in place and restoring the routines you need to carry on life as usual. We pride ourselves on being both educational with tips and hands on when the help is needed. That is how we SERV!
When Was The Last Time You Flushed Your Water Heater?
8/15/2022 (Permalink)
Maintain you water heater to extend its life, and help protect yourself from water damage!
Common answers include "I don't know," "Never," or "Wait What? You're supposed to flush you water heater?"
Because many home projects compete for your attention, water heater maintenance can be easily forgotten. Routine activities like running the dishwasher, showering or washing laundry depend on a properly functioning unit. Unseen problems may slowly develop into a catastrophe; so making sure to maintain your water heater is paramount.
How Should a Heater Be Flushed?
Performing a flush can help you identify problem areas. Before you start, establish a safety zone in the heater room. Then perform the following steps:
- To avoid electric shock, make sure floors and all other room surfaces are dry, and turn off your main water valve.
- Next, turn off the electric power circuit breaker or turn off the gas, depending on your heater's energy source.
- Wait several hours for the tank water to cool off.
- Attach a garden hose to your water heater drain, place the other end on your driveway, and open the tank drain so water can flow outside.
- Repeat until the unit is empty, then detach the hose, close the drain valve, turn on the main water supply, and safely restore the power.
When Are Flushes Recommended?
Although your heater may be working, these appliances lose effectiveness over time as water sediment builds up, so yearly flushing helps maintain the units in optimal condition. Certain signs may indicate that you need to schedule a water heater flush sooner.
What Are Some Early Warning Signs?
One of the first signs can be strange noises coming from the tank. Water may take longer to heat or leaks may begin to appear under the heater. Water discoloration or unpleasant odors can also signal problems.
What if There Is a Problem?
If you experience problems or feel you cannot safely perform a flush, you may want to call for professional assistance. Some issues may need to be identified and resolved by an expert technician or plumber. You can receive the help you need and best solutions can also be evaluated.
Preventative yearly maintenance can maximize the life of your water heater and help identify problems while they are small enough to be fixed. That's always a good idea!

Don't Let Mold Take Hold in Your Pensacola Commercial Property!
8/1/2022 (Permalink)
If mold DOES take hold, trust SERVPRO of North Pensacola to help!
In the humid Northwest Florida climate, a minimal amount of moisture mixed with the right material, such as drywall, creates the PERFECT environment for an unwanted invader – MOLD! In order to protect the health of your employees, clients, and yourself, the last thing you want to encounter in your commercial property is mold. Following are a couple of tips for preventing microbial growth from "taking hold" at your business:
#1 – Monitor for, and repair, any leaks:
With intricate plumbing systems, and multiple points of entry and exit, commercial buildings are much more likely to incur leaks, whether from internal sources, such as sink fixtures, or external, like severe weather. Create a plan for monitoring for water leaks, and if found, repair as soon as possible to limit the amount of moisture absorbed into the building. Common signs of leaks to watch for include pooling of water in one specific location, staining on ceiling tiles or drywall, and a musty odor in a particular area.
#2 – Take care of your HVAC system:
Circulating unclean air in conjunction with humidity and moisture can lead to mold growth. Change out AC filters regularly and keep duct work maintained to limit the possibility of microbial growth. Condensation can often form at air duct vents and returns, so be cognizant of this moisture and keep it from seeping into surrounding materials.
In the unfortunate event that your commercial building does incur mold issues, know that SERVPRO of North Pensacola is Here to Help! We have the equipment, experience, and training to provide mold remediation services while limiting business interruption as much as possible. To learn more about our process, or request an appointment, please give us a call at 850-466-3076.
Reduce the Risk of DRYER FIRES!
7/27/2022 (Permalink)
Dryer Fire? SERVPRO of North Pensacola is Here to Help!
Preventative maintenance and cleaning are two of the best ways to reduce the risk of a residential structure fire, and this is especially true in the case of clothing dryers. The US Fire Administration reports than an average of 2,900 dryer fires occur each year, amounting in nearly $35 million worth of property damage loss, and that failure to clean the dryer is the leading cause of these fires. Keep yourself, loved ones, and your property safe by following these tips on clothing dryer maintenance:
- Make sure that you dryer is installed according to manufacturer specifications. Improper wiring can cause an electrical fire. Along with proper installation, it is imperative to make sure your dryer is properly powered.
- Clean out the lint filter after each cycle. This allows the proper air flow through the machine, and the removal of the lint limits the amount of material available to burn if a fire did start.
- Periodically check the vent system leading out of the dryer. Make sure this venting is not cracked, restricted, or blocked.
- Do not put materials into the clothing dryer that are not rated for this type of drying.
- Clean out lint buildup behind, around, and underneath the dryer.
- Do not leave your dryer running unattended.
In the unfortunate event that a dryer, other appliance, or other malfunction causes a fire at your home, know that the professionally trained team at SERVPRO of North Pensacola is equipped and prepared to help. Types of Thunderstorms
7/25/2022 (Permalink)
If storms lead to storm DAMAGE, trust SERVPRO of North Pensacola to help!
Thunderstorms are common occurrences in Northwest Florida, especially during the spring and summer months. While residents of Escambia County and surrounding areas are accustomed to thunderstorms rolling through, many may not be aware that there are different kinds of thunderstorms, and each carries a varying level of severity. To best prepare for the effects that these storms can have, AND keep yourself and your loved ones safe, it is important to understand the various thunderstorm types:
Ordinary Cell
Also known as a “pulse” thunderstorm, this is a single-cell storm. These types of thunderstorms are generally short lived, and while gusty winds or hail can develop, they are typically not severe. Thunderstorms of this type do have the potential to develop additional cells under the right atmospheric conditions but are generally less severe and dangerous that other types.
Multi-Cell Cluster
These types of thunderstorms form when multiple ordinary cell storms, which are in various stages of development, merge together. Depending on atmospheric conditions, these storms can vary greatly in the amount of rainfall dropped over any one area. Multi-cell clusters can produce flash flooding conditions and should be closely monitored.
Multi-Cell Line (Squall Line)
When thunderstorms form in a line, they can sometimes stretch for hundreds of miles. These multi-cell lines can produce damaging winds, hail, occasional tornadoes, and heavy rainfall. Long lived, strong squall lines can produce considerable, widespread damage.
Supercell Thunderstorms
Supercell thunderstorms are highly organized, special single cell thunderstorms that can persist for many hours. These storms are known to produce extreme winds, flash flooding, large hail, and account for nearly all the significant tornadoes in the United States. The shape of the storm helps to determine the amount of precipitation generally associated with the supercell. Storms like these can be extremely unpredictable and dangerous; oftentimes these will be associated with severe thunderstorm warnings from your local weather authority.
In the unfortunate event that a thunderstorm, or other weather phenomena, causes damage to your home or business, trust SERVPRO of North Pensacola to help. Serving the communities of Ferry Pass, Cottage Hill, and surrounding areas, our team takes great pride in providing the highest possible level of customer service when disaster strikes. Traveling This Summer? Reduce the Risk of Residential Water Damage!
7/1/2022 (Permalink)
Cleaning out your gutters is just one way to protect your property while away on vacay!
With school out of session, many families plan and take vacation during the summertime months. Whether taking a cross-country road trip to visit friends, going on a weekend getaway to a destination theme park, or any of the other wonderful activities you enjoy, you will want to make sure your home is safe and secure. Locking doors, setting the alarm, and having a neighbor grab the mail are all common preparations you may make before a trip, but have you considered how to reduce the risk of water damages while you are away? We have some great tips to help you do just that!
Turn off your water before you leave: By turning off your main water valve to your home, you greatly reduce the risk of a water damage caused by a pipe failure or supply line leak.
Clean out your gutters: In case heavy rains take place while you are away, having your gutters cleared will allow the water to freely flow from your roof and away from your property. Conversely, clogged gutters can cause water to back up onto the roof.
Do a “pre-trip” property check: This should include checking the plumbing below all sinks for any leaks, removing any debris from the yard that could cause standing water to not drain away properly, checking for any damage to window or door sills, and making sure all appliance supply lines are secure.
Have someone you trust check on your property: Perhaps that neighbor that is collecting your mail could also pop inside and make sure nothing has happened while you are away. If damage has occurred, the faster it is discovered, the less likely additional issues will arise.
Serving the communities of Pensacola, Ferry Pass, and surrounding areas, SERVPRO of North Pensacola is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week when water damages strike. Our team of highly trained professionals takes great pride in providing the highest possible level of customer service during difficult times and will work to make your water damage “Like it never even happened.” To learn more or request assistance, give us a call: 850-466-3076.

Storm Damages? Call SERVPRO of North Pensacola: 850-466-3076
It’s here. The time of year that many Floridians dread: Hurricane Season. Running from June 1st to November 30th, the Atlantic hurricane season ushers in a variety of tropical systems, ranging from low grade depressions up to major storms. Residents and business owners in Northwest Florida know all too well the damage and devastation that these systems can cause, and how important it is to be PREPARED during this time of year. So, what steps should you take in preparing yourself, your home or business, and your loved ones?
- Have an emergency supply kit for each member of the family. Essentials for your kit will include a minimum of 3-day supply of nonperishable food and clean drinking water, flashlights, batteries, and a battery or crank powered radio. Depending on the specific needs of your family, you may also need to include medications, children’s goods, games and activities, and pet supplies.
- Have an evacuation plan in place. Always follow the guidance of local officials as it pertains to evacuation zones to keep yourself safe. All members of your family should be aware of the evacuation plan and where you will all meet. You may also need to consider researching lodging that is pet friendly if you have pets to evacuate with you.
- Take steps to protect your property. This may include cleaning out rain gutters, removing debris from your yard, storing patio furniture and other loose outdoor items, and installing storm shutters on your windows. Especially in high wind situations, reducing the amount of material that can become airborne is essential to helping protect your property.
- Stay Weather Aware! Storms can grow and/or change direction very rapidly: it is important to have a way to receive weather alerts even with power out and stay cognizant of where the storm is headed. Rain and winds can extend a great distance from the center of the storm, so be prepared even if you are not directly in the path.
Once the storm has passed, SERVPRO of North Pensacola is equipped and prepared to help in the unfortunate event that your property did receive damage. Serving the communities of Ferry Pass, Cottage Hill, and surrounding areas, SERVPRO of North Pensacola is “Faster to any size disaster.” Call us, 850-466-3076!
Celebrating Memorial Day with Fireworks? Do it Safely!
5/18/2022 (Permalink)
Enjoy the Fireworks...but do it safely!
Memorial Day Weekend is a time for family gatherings, outdoor barbecues, playing in the pool, and enjoying fireworks as night falls. When enjoying these festivities, though, it is important to keep safety, especially FIRE SAFETY, in mind. Protecting yourself, family, friends, and property from danger and disaster when it comes to fireworks can be achieved by practicing the following guidelines:
- Always follow the manufacturers instructions, guidelines, and recommendations on the firework packaging. Improper use of fireworks can result in explosions, severe burns, and/or property damage.
- Do not allow children to use fireworks unattended. Firework ignition should be supervised by a responsible adult and children and pets should not be allowed to get too close to lit fireworks.
- Be sure to light fireworks in an open area, free of buildings, structures, and foliage. Creating a “barrier” of empty space around the firework area can reduce accidental fire spread.
- Make sure fireworks are completely extinguished before discarding. This may include allowing them to sit for an extended time before putting into the trash or soaking in a bucket of water before throwing out. It is a good practice to have both a fire extinguisher and water source, such as a hose, readily available while using fireworks.
- Only ignite one firework at a time. Having multiple fireworks going in a small area can increase the risk of things getting out of control and something in the surrounding area catching fire.
Even with the best safety practices and measures in place, accidents can still happen. If fireworks, or any other fire source, causes damage to your home or business this upcoming Memorial Day Weekend, call SERVPRO of North Pensacola for help. Our team is available 24/7 for emergencies and takes great pride in providing the highest possible level of customer service when disaster strikes. To learn more about our fire services, or request assistance, give us a call: 850-466-3076.

Pensacola Storm Preparation – Power Outages
2/17/2022 (Permalink)
Prepare for Power Outages Before They Happen!
When heavy storms strike, especially those that bring with them strong winds, one of the most common occurrences is loss of power. Depending on the intensity of the storm, amount of geographical area affected, and population density of the area hit, the restoration of power can happen in as little as a few minutes or can take as long as several days. With Northwest Florida being quite prone to heavy storms, hurricanes, and other weather phenomena that can result in power outages, it is important to take into consideration these power outage preparation tips:
- If using a generator, be sure to run outdoors, and follow all the manufacturer’s safety and operational instructions.
- Have plenty of flashlights and/or lanterns with batteries in your Emergency Preparedness Kit. Matches or a lighter are also valuable tools that can be useful in the case of a power outage.
- Install smoke and carbon monoxide detectors that have a battery back-up system in place.
- Keep a thermometer inside of your refrigerator; if temperatures within the refrigerator rise above 40 degrees, you will need to discard the affected food.
- Never touch downed power lines. Contact local officials if you see downed power lines in your area.

Types of Storm Damage
1/17/2022 (Permalink)
Trust SERVPRO of North Pensacola to help with storm damage strikes!
Community members throughout Northwest Florida are all too accustomed to hearing Thunderstorm Watches, Tornado Warnings, and High Surf Advisories come across the airwaves, and understand the need to prepare for such incidences. What, though, are some of the most common “storm damages” in our area?
Wind Damage
Hurricanes, Tropical Storms, Thunderstorms, and Tornadoes almost always bring along with them high winds. Sustained high winds can lead to serious damages, including downed trees, destroyed roofs, and flying debris that can damage windows. High gusty winds can topple large objects, blow open doors, and destroy the exterior of many structures. These winds can drive water into normally dry areas, leading to flood risks, as well.
Flood Damage
Especially along the coastal areas, flooding is an ever-present issue during storms. High surf can push into structures, debris can limit storm runoff, and heavy rains can quickly accumulate causing localized flash flooding. Flood waters often carry debris and contaminants in them, making traveling through them extremely dangerous.
For storms of all shapes, sizes, and severity, know that SERVPRO of North Pensacola is prepared and equipped to help with any property damages you sustain. Serving the communities of Pensacola, Ferry Pass, Gonzalez, and surround areas, our team is “Faster to Any Size Disaster,” offering 24/7/365 emergency response. Fa, La, La, La, La… FIRE!
12/6/2021 (Permalink)
Stay safe as your decorate for the holidays!
The joy of the Christmas Season can quickly diminish into stress and worry with the addition of a structure fire. Especially while decorating for the holidays, it is important to always consider fire safety first and foremost. The National Fire Protection Association offers many tips to follow while decorating and celebrating the season, helping to prevent yourself, loved ones, or property from experiencing a holiday fire disaster.
Christmas Trees:
- If decorating with a live tree, be sure to select one that is fresh, with green needles that do not easily fall off when touched.
- Place the Christmas tree at least three feet away from any heat or flame source, such as fireplaces, space heaters, or candles.
- Water your tree daily; the dryer your tree becomes the more likely it is to catch fire.
- Do not use light strands that are broken, frayed, or otherwise damaged. Only use lights that are listed by a qualified testing laboratory.
- Always turn off your Christmas tree lights before leaving your home or going to bed.
Outdoor Decorations:
- When hanging lights, be sure to only use strands that are rated for outdoor use. Use clips, not nails, or staples, to hang you lights to so that cords do not get damaged.
- Do not block any emergency exits, doors, or windows with decorations.
- Do not overload power supplies with decorations, and always turn off or unplug decorations when you leave your home.
- Bring outdoor lights inside after the holidays to remove hazards, as well as make your lights last longer.
Holiday Entertaining:
- Test your smoke alarms before hosting a holiday party.
- Keep children and pets away from lit candles. Keep lit candles away from draperies, furniture, or other flammable materials.
- While cooking on the stovetop, stay in the kitchen; keep children and pets out of the kitchen while the stovetop is in use.
- Do not leave fireplaces, space heaters, or other heat sources running unattended.
We wish you a happy and fire-safe holiday season! In the unfortunate event that fire damage does intrude on your Christmas celebration, know that SERVPRO of North Pensacola is Here to Help. How Can I Help Protect My Property from Storm Damages?
12/2/2021 (Permalink)
Trust SERVPRO of North Pensacola as your preferred cleanup and restoration vendor for storm damage services!
As we all know, bad weather is an inevitable occurrence Pensacola, Ferry Pass, and surrounding communities of the North Florida Panhandle. Depending on the time of year, residents and business leaders are forced to deal with a variety of weather phenomena, including heavy rainstorms, tropical systems, and gusty winds. These conditions take a toll on the properties exposed to them, leading to a need for cleanup, mitigation, and restoration services. So, what can property owners do to help protect their structures and reduce the damages sustained from storms?
Inspection & Maintenance
Regularly inspecting your property for signs of damage, such as missing shingles, cracked siding, or window and door seal issues, and fixing as soon as possible will reduce the likelihood that these small issues become much more catastrophic during a heavy storm. During your building inspection, be sure to check both the interior and exterior, including the roof, plumbing, and electrical components. During the maintenance phase, focus both on repairing issues found during your inspection AND performing general duties, such as cleaning out rain gutters, trimming trees on the property, and removing any debris that could potentially damage your home or business during a storm. Depending on the size, function, and age of your property, more frequent inspection and maintenance may be required, but it is recommended to perform these tasks a minimum of two times a year.
Planning & Preparedness
Those who live, work, and own property in Escambia County are no strangers to planning and preparing for severe weather, particularly hurricane season. These same tasks, such as creating an emergency kit that includes food, water, and medications, knowing your evacuation route, and having a way to receive weather alerts can also apply throughout the rest of the year. Along with preparing for a storm, it is important to plan for after the storm, too. In the case of property damage, you want to have a vendor that you can trust to arrive quickly, begin the mitigation process, and reduce the overall amount of damage sustained. Choosing a professionally operated organization, with industry leading equipment, experience, and training will help make your damage “Like it never even happened,” faster. Stay safe this Thanksgiving by practicing fire safety while cooking!
Thanksgiving is packed with a variety of traditions: Spending time with loved ones, watching football, and having a delicious meal of cranberry sauce, stuffing, and most importantly, turkey! This joyous time of year provides the opportunity to create many memories, however it also ushers in a rise in property damages from fire. So, when preparing your Thanksgiving meal, make sure to keep yourself and your property safe by following the below precautions:
- Do not leave items unattended while cooking on the stovetop. Watch for pots to bubble over and reduce heat as necessary.
- Keep children and pets out of the kitchen while cooking your Thanksgiving meal. This reduces the risk of items being knocked off the stovetop, or oven knobs being adjusted unintentionally.
- If frying your turkey, ensure that the bird is completely thawed before placing into hot grease. Keep your turkey fryer a safe distance from any structures, foliage, or furniture when in use.
- Make sure all your smoke alarms are in working order. They can be checked by pushing the “test” button.

Where Did the Water Come From?
11/5/2021 (Permalink)
When water damage strikes, call 850-466-3076 for help!
When water damage strikes, the first thing you will want to do is stop the water intrusion, reducing the amount of damage sustained. Determining the source of the water may not always be immediately apparent, so it is important to be aware of some of the most “common culprits” for water intrusion and damage:
- Appliance Failure – a leaking dishwasher, refrigerator, or washing machine can go unnoticed until the damage becomes heavy. Periodically check your appliances for any breaks in supply or drain lines, disconnected or loose lines, or any other malfunctions that could lead to a leak.
- Plumbing Issues – piping issues, especially in older structures, can cause severe damages in a short amount of time. Watch for any signs of plumbing issues, including discoloration of water, odd changes in water pressure, or leaks underneath sinks that may signify a larger issue with your plumbing.
- Rainwater Intrusion – clogged gutters, roof damages, or improperly sealed windows and doors can all allow rainwater to enter the interior of a structure. Water staining on ceiling or walls can signify a leak from the exterior, and should be addressed immediately to prevent further, larger damages.
Once the “where” of you water damage has been identified, know that SERVPRO of North Pensacola is Here to Help with the “what now.” Our team provides emergency water damage response, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, striving to make your damage “Like it never even happened.” To learn more, request assistance, or speak with a member of our team, please give us a call at 850-466-3076!

How Familiar with Flooding Are You?
10/28/2021 (Permalink)
Flood Damages? SERVPRO of North Pensacola is Here to Help!
One of the most damaging side effects of heavy storms is flooding. Flooding is defined as “an overflowing of water onto land that is normally dry,” and in the Panhandle of Florida can happen quite frequently in many communities. Floods are the most common and widespread of all weather-related natural disasters, making it extremely important not only to understand the different kinds of flooding possible, but also your local flood zone definition.
Common Kinds of Flooding in Pensacola, Florida
River Flood – a river flood occurs when water rises over the top of a riverbank. River flooding can almost immediately cause issues for structures located on the river, and if water levels continue to rise, have damaging results for properties downstream as well.
Coastal Flood – a coastal flood occurs when land areas along the coast are inundated with rising waters. A combination of factors, including tidal patterns, rainfall, and land elevation can all play a role in coastal flooding. Coastal flooding is of an even greater concern in our area, since much of the Panhandle of Florida is along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico.
Storm Surge – Storm surge is a variation of coastal flooding in which the wind, atmospheric pressure, and waves of a severe storm greatly increase the water level in coastal areas. Highly common during hurricanes and tropical disturbances, storm surge can occur very quickly, and pose serious property and safety concerns.
Flash Flood – a flash flood is usually caused by heavy or excessive rainfall in a short period of time in a localized area. Flash floods can occur with very little warning and be extremely dangerous. Clogged drainage systems and standing debris can contribute to the likelihood of flash flooding occurrences, restricting water run-off.
Is My Property In a Flood Zone?
It is important to understand that with the right combination of conditions, any property can be subject to flooding. Areas are defined by their flood risk: either high, moderate, or low risk. If you are interested in learning about the flood risk for your property, visit:

Residential Structure Fires: What are the Leading Causes?
10/14/2021 (Permalink)
Fire Damages? Give us a call at 850-466-3076!
The smell of smoke, the flickering of flames, or the sounds of sirens…
These are some of the last things a homeowner wants to experience. Structure fires can be extremely dangerous, costly, and stressful: because of this, knowing the most common causes of these fires, and being able to perform routine maintenance to reduce their likelihood is imperative for members of the community.
So, what are the most common causes of residential structure fires?
According to the National Fire Protection Association, the five most common causes of residential structure fires are Cooking, Heating, Electrical, Smoking, and Candles.
- Cooking: Help prevent cooking fires by never leaving foods in the oven or on the stove unattended. Always be sure to keep cloth and paper goods (such as paper towels) a safe distance away from cooking surfaces. Supervise children in the kitchen, never allowing them to cook alone.
- Heating: When using a space heater for warmth, make sure to keep all flammable materials at least three feet away from the unit. If using a wood burning fireplace, have your chimney inspected and cleaned by a professional at least once a year.
- Electrical: Regularly check your electrical equipment cords for frays or breaks. If you have breakers pop frequently, have your system inspected by a professional. Follow manufacturer’s directions on installation of all appliances.
- Smoking: If you smoke, consider smoking outside of your home rather than inside. Keep lighters and matches out of the reach of children, and make sure cigarettes or pipes are fully extinguished after use.
- Candles: Make sure candles are fully extinguished after use. Do not place in an area where they can be easily knocked over. Keep all paper and cloth materials away from burning candles.
Sometimes, even with the best practices and maintenance in place, fires still happen. Know that when fire damages occur, SERVPRO of North Pensacola is Here to Help. Categories of Water Damage
10/4/2021 (Permalink)
When water damage strikes, trust the professionals at SERVPRO of North Pensacola to help!
Water damages can occur from a variety of sources: flood waters, broken or leaking pipes, supply line malfunctions, wind-driven rain, and the list goes on…
Although many residents and business leaders throughout the Pensacola community understand the many ways that a water damage can occur, many are unaware of the different categories of water damage. Understanding the category, and the risks associated with each type of water, is imperative in determining the steps that must be taken during the remediation process:
- Category 1, or “Clean Water” is water from a clean source, such as a broken water supply line or faucet. If left untreated, category 1 water can quickly degrade into category 2 or 3 water depending upon factors such as time, temperature, and contact with contaminants.
- Category 2, or “Gray Water” has a significant level of contamination that could cause discomfort or illness if ingested. Sources for category 2 water may include washing machine overflow or dishwasher overflow. Just as category 1 water can quickly degrade, category 2 can also degrade into category 3 water over time.
- Category 3, or “Black Water” is grossly unsanitary and could cause severe illness or death if ingested, and any contact should be avoided. Sources for category 3 water could include flooding from rivers or streams, water from beyond the toilet trap, water from the toilet bowl with feces, or standing water that has begun to support microbial growth.
The category of water helps your remediation professional to determine what can be dried and salvaged, what must be discarded, and how much demolition may be needed in the structure. Water Damage Prevention in Pensacola, Florida
8/16/2021 (Permalink)
Water Damages? We're Here to Help. Call us at 850-466-3076 Today!
Stress, worry, costly: all words that come to mind on the topic of “Residential Water Damage.” No one ever plans ON having a water damage at their home, however, it is imperative to plan FOR such an issue, as well as practice preventative measures to lessen the likelihood of occurrence. There are many steps that can be taken to help protect your property against water damages, both from the interior (appliance leak, burst pipe) and exterior (coastal flooding, rainwater intrusion):
- Periodically do a “wellness check” on your plumbing. Check for cracked or damaged seals, rusting pipes, and/or water staining underneath your pipes. If an issue is found, correct it as soon as possible to keep a small leak from turning into a large water disaster.
- Make sure both the supply and drain lines for household appliances, including the refrigerator, washing machine, and dishwasher, are all installed and fitted correctly. If there are any cracks, tears, or signs of dry rot present, replace the lines to limit the possibility of a break causing water damages.
- Maintain the landscaping around your property. Heavy vegetation and debris blocking drains and ditches can cause water to back up, toward your house. This issue can be compounded by heavy rains that produce flash flooding scenarios, so maintaining your property can be a great preventative measure to lessen the likelihood of flood intrusion.
- Clean out your rain gutters. Clogged rain gutters, much like clogged drainage ditches, can allow water to back up. Backed up water on your roof can easily lead to a leak inside your home, especially if your roof is older or not well maintained.
Although preparation can go a very long way in helping to prevent water damages, all too often, water damages DO happen. When they do, trust SERVPRO of North Pensacola, your locally owned and operated water damage mitigation specialists, to help make your damage “Like it never even happened.”
To learn more or request service, please give us a call at 850-466-3076: We’re available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for you water damage emergencies.

Fire Safety Equipment
7/30/2021 (Permalink)
One of the best pieces of equipment to protect yourself from a fire emergency is a smoke alarm!
There are a multitude of devices and technologies that, depending on the size and type of your structure, can be utilized to help protect your property in a fire emergency. Preparation and prevention are two of the best methods you can practice, keeping both yourself and your building safe from fire damage. Although many of these are well-known, there are also some other less commonly recognized devices or technologies that may be beneficial to you and your structure:
- Smoke Alarms – The National Fire Protection Association recommends that the minimum number of smoke alarms that one should install within their home is:
- One inside of every sleeping (bed) room
- One outside of each sleeping (bed) area
- At least one on every level of the home (including the basement)
Furthermore, these your smoke alarms should be tested regularly, and batteries should be replaced at least twice per year.
- Fire Extinguishers – There are a multitude of different types of fire extinguishers that can be utilized, depending on the purpose and contents of the structure. For a more detailed explanation of fire extinguisher types and uses, please visit our blog, “Did You Know? – The Fire Extinguisher Edition”
- Fire Sprinklers / Suppression Systems – In larger structures, commercial buildings, and many apartment or condominium complexes, fire sprinklers and/or suppression systems may be installed. These systems cover a large area, and once activated, produce extensive amounts of water to put out fires and prevent further spread.
- Escape Ladders, Routes, and Plans – Having an escape plan put together, in case of fire, whether in your home or business, and sharing with all people regularly within the building, can provide a much safer outcome during a fire emergency. Plans may need to include emergency exit locations, escape equipment (such as ladders), and meeting locations once exiting the building.
Safety is the #1 priority when fire strikes. After the fire, know that SERVPRO of North Pensacola is prepared and here to help with any flame, smoke, or soot damages your property has sustained. To learn more about our fire restoration services or schedule an appointment, please give us a call at 850-466-3076.
National Weather Service Announces Changes to Severe Thunderstorm Warnings
7/29/2021 (Permalink)
Always follow the guidance of local authorities when it comes to severe weather!
In an effort to better prepare people across the nation for severe weather threats, the National Weather Service will begin adding “damage threat tags” to severe thunderstorm warnings as of August 2nd, 2021. Furthermore, the “destructive” tag distinction will trigger an emergency alert on mobile phones of all within the forecasted damage area. Understanding the different levels of damage threat tags will help you be even better prepared in the case of a severe weather emergency:
- “Destructive” Damage Threat – To fall into this category, a thunderstorm must be forecasted to produce 2.75-inch hail (baseball size) and/or 80 MPH winds. This is the distinction that will automatically trigger an emergency alert to mobile phones within the forecast area.
- “Considerable” Damage Threat – To fall into this category, a thunderstorm must be forecasted to produce 1.75-inch hail (golf ball size) and/or 70 MPH winds.
- “Base” or “Baseline” Thunderstorm – This is the standard severe thunderstorm warning that has previously been in use, and criteria for this category remains unchanged. A thunderstorm capable of producing 1.00-inch hail (quarter size) and/or 58 MPH winds.
These added damage threat tags encourage the public to take action, such as finding shelter and avoiding windows, when a considerable or destructive thunderstorm moves through the area. Added warnings reduce the likelihood of injury to persons within the forecasted area and allow home and business owners within frequently affected areas to consider additional precautions for their properties, such as the installation of storm shutters.
If a baseline, considerable, or destructive thunderstorm causes property damage to your home or business, give the professionals at SERVPRO of North Pensacola a call for help. Serving the communities of Molino, Cottage Hill, Ferry Pass, and surrounding areas, SERVPRO of North Pensacola has the equipment, expertise, and training to handle damages of all sizes. How Do We Handle Water Damages?
6/11/2021 (Permalink)
We're Here to Help with your water damage needs!
SERVPRO is known nationwide as a leader in the cleanup and restoration industry, including water damage remediation, but people often ask: HOW do we handle water damages?
The first step in our water damage remediation process is Emergency Contact. With crews available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, SERVPRO of North Pensacola is ready and equipped to respond to your water damaged property no matter the time of day, or day of the week. During this initial phase, information about the loss, such as approximate square footage affected, cause of the water damage, and type of flooring will be collected, to ensure that we arrive with the appropriate equipment, labor, and resources to get to work quickly.
Once on site, our team will begin inspecting and assessing the damages. This initial inspection, or scoping, allows us to formulate the most efficient “plan of attack” to help restore your property.
After completing the initial inspection, SERVPRO of North Pensacola will, if necessary, begin the process of extracting any standing water. Removing excess water quickly limits the amount of secondary damage potential, while reducing the amount of water available to soak into surrounding drywall and flooring.
Following the extraction process, SERVPRO of North Pensacola will place drying and dehumidification equipment, in accordance with IICRC training and standards. We use industry leading drying equipment, in conjunction with moisture detection technology, to provide the best possible drying scenario in the shortest amount of time.
Once drying has been complete, our team will clean and sanitize the affected area. We offer cleaning services for both the structure and the contents affected, reducing the likelihood of both microbial growth and odor formation.
At this point the mitigation process is complete, but SERVPRO of North Pensacola has an additional service available as well: Reconstruction. Water damages often result in the need to remove drywall, ceiling, or cabinetry, and in these instances, as a Licensed General Contraction, we can also provide reconstruction services.
When water damage strikes, call SERVPRO of North Pensacola at 850-466-3076 for help. Serving Cottage Hill, Gonzalez, Ferry Pass, and surrounding communities, SERVPRO of North Pensacola is Faster to Any Size Disaster!
Did You Know? – The Fire Extinguisher Edition
5/26/2021 (Permalink)
Fire Damages? Call SERVPRO of North Pensacola - 850-466-3076!
It is well known that having a working, in-date fire extinguisher on your property is imperative for fire safety preparation. Many commercial properties require annual fire extinguisher inspections, and that team members receive training on the location of the extinguishers. Did you know, though, that there are different kinds of fire extinguishers AND that there is a proper way to use this device? Learn more about these fire extinguisher details below:
Q: What are the different kinds of fire extinguishers, and what is each used for?
A: The U.S. Fire Administration defines five primary types of fire extinguishers used to put out different kinds of fires:
- A – used for ordinary material fires, such as wood, cloth, or paper.
- B – for use with combustible or flammable liquids like grease, gasoline, or oil.
- C – for use with electrical equipment like appliances and tools.
- D – for use with flammable metals.
- K – for use with animal oils, vegetable oils, and fats in cooking appliances.
Many fire extinguishers may also be multipurpose, in that they carry multiple letter definitions and can put out a variety of material fires. Having the right fire extinguisher for the materials within your structure is very important in limiting the amount of damage sustained, as well as ensuring safety for occupants.
Q: What is the proper way to use a fire extinguisher?
A: The U.S. Fire Administration suggests the acronym “PASS” as a means of properly discharging a fire extinguisher:
P - Pull the pin. Hold the extinguisher with the nozzle pointing away from you and release the locking mechanism.
A - Aim low. Point the extinguisher at the base of the fire.
S - Squeeze the lever slowly and evenly
S - Sweep the nozzle from side to side
ALWAYS use extreme caution when inside of a fire damaged structure and follow the guidance of local fire authorities. If your property has suffered fire damages, know that SERVPRO of North Pensacola is Here to Help. We offer 24/7 emergency response, and have the training, equipment, and expertise to safely clean and remediate the damages. To learn more or schedule service, give us a call at 850-466-3076.
Fire Damage Prevention
3/31/2021 (Permalink)
SERVPRO of North Pensacola offers a variety of fire damage restoration services!
When it comes to protecting yourself and your property from fire damages, there are many steps that can be taken. Some of the more commonly practiced steps include ensuring you have working smoke detectors, checking smoke detector batteries at least twice a year, and keeping functioning fire extinguishers in the home in case of a fire emergency. Did you know, however, that there are additional steps that can be taken to help PREVENT fires from occurring in the first place?
- Clean and Maintain Your Clothes Dryer/Dryer Vents: The leading cause of dryer fires, at 34%, is the failure to clean dryer vents. It is a best practice to regularly clean out dryer vents, and to clean the dryer lint filter after each load of laundry is dried, as an abundance of lint in the filter restricts the flow of air to the machine. You will also want to occasionally check for and, if needed, repair damages to the vent pipes behind the machine. Finally, make sure your machine is installed using the correct type of electrical plug and outlet per the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Check Wiring and Electrical Equipment Regularly: Flickering lights, a scorched smell, or frequently blown breakers may all be signs of a wiring issue in your home or business. Contact an electrical professional to address these types of issues. Along with structural wiring, you should regularly check appliances and electrical equipment for breaks or frays in cords, which provide a fire hazard.
- Keep Items Away from Hot Surfaces/Open Flames: If burning candles, smoking, or cooking in the home, be sure to keep flammable items, such as draperies, towels, clothing, and cleaning chemicals away from hot surfaces and flames. Fire can spread rapidly once these kinds of items are ignited, making containment and suppression much more difficult.
In the unfortunate event that fire damages do affect your home, know that SERVPRO of North Pensacola is Here to Help. Our team has specialized training to handle fire damages, restore contents affected by smoke and soot, and help make your property “Like it never even happened.” To learn more about our fire remediation services, give us a call at 850-466-3076.

When The Waters Rise...

We are here to help with your commercial project needs. As always, it is our pleasure to serve you!
During storm surge, do you know what happens to your office? Maybe the grass gets soggy, or maybe your computer mouse is squealing for a life raft while singing “Ride, Sally, Ride!”
SERVPRO of North Pensacola recently assisted local businesses affected by rising water from Hurricane Sally. We were called in after the water receded to evaluate the contents and structures of several bayside occupants.
As you can see, this office received “the works” from our dedicated crews. Even though the floor was well above normal water levels, water infiltrated the building creating havoc on the lower walls, contents, and floors. We initialized environmental stabilization while we evaluated and processed salvageable contents. Once the building was empty, the fun began! The crews did a 2-foot flood cut to expose the inner wall cavities, removed the flooring, bio-washed the remaining affected materials, applied an EPA registered antimicrobial, and dried to EMC.
What is EMC?.... Call us and let’s discuss! We are here to help with your commercial project needs. As always, it is our pleasure to serve you!
Recovering from Hurricane Sally

Has mold taken hold in your home or business? Call SERVPRO of North Pensacola for help!
Our community all too recently experienced what a severe tropical system can do with Hurricane Sally. Many properties were damaged by recording breaking flood waters and elevated winds. SERVPRO of North Pensacola has taken great pride in helping our community to recover from this storm event and continues to work tirelessly every day to remediate the damages throughout Pensacola, Cantonment, and surrounding areas.
As many properties are currently being restored to their pre-storm condition, another source of damage from Hurricane Sally may still linger: MOLD! The combination of organic matter and moisture creates the perfect environment for mold formation, and in humid climates, this mold growth can spread rapidly throughout a structure. Proper drying of materials after a water damage has occurred is imperative to lessen the probability of mold growth, however, after a flood inducing storm like Hurricane Sally, this is often a tough feat to accomplish.
SERVPRO of North Pensacola is Here to Help if mold has taken hold in your home or business. Our team has the credentials, experience, and equipment to remediate mold losses throughout the state of Florida. We also have a reconstruction division, providing a one-stop-shop for your mitigation, remediation, and reconstruction needs. Fireworks are a big part of winter holiday celebrations, and many cities around the country have firework displays each year. It’s fun to watch the night sky light up with explosions of light. According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) ten percent of fires that occur between December 30 to January 3 are caused by fireworks, with the highest number of fires occurring on New Year’s Day.
SERVPRO® of North Pensacola’s highly trained fire restoration technicians respond to fire damage emergencies in the Gonzalez and surrounding areas often during the winter holiday season. Our technicians are on call 24 hours a day and typically arrive on-site within four hours of your call. Here are some fireworks facts from the NFPA:
- More than 19,500 reported fires are started by fireworks annually.
- Half of the fireworks injuries seen at emergency rooms were extremities: hand, finger, or leg. One-third were to the eye or other parts of the head.
- Children ages 10–14 had the highest rate of fireworks injury, with more than one-third (36%) of the victims of fireworks injuries under age 15.
- Sparklers account for roughly one-quarter of emergency room fireworks injuries.

We have odor removal down to a science in Pensacola!
Smelly critters in Ferry Pass?
Two species of skunks that inhabit Florida: the striped skunk and the spotted skunk. Both are nocturnal and are primarily solitary creatures. They are known to like porches. One night I opened the back door of my Ferry Pass restaurant to take out the garbage and was greeted by a tiny baby skunk standing sideways to make himself look bigger, and he had his tiny tail up and was trying to spray me with all his might! I slammed the door before he could get me, but there was still a powerful skunk odor that permeated the entire restaurant. Thankfully the restaurant was closed. I called SERVPRO® of North Pensacola, and they came out right away and removed the skunk odor without a trace!
SERVPRO technicians are on call 24 hours a day and have the training and experience, and equipment necessary to identify and eliminate offensive odors. Our technicians never use shortcuts or mask odors, they use odor removal products that penetrate surfaces and thoroughly remove them.

Gas Station Damage in Yniestra?
11/16/2020 (Permalink)
We respond to commercial property damage emergencies 24 hours a day in North Pensacola.
Every Second Counts
One night, while I was working the late shift in Yniestra, a group of teenage boys drove in to get gas. One of their tires was low so I directed them to the air compressor. Just as he was finished putting air in his tire, a group of cute teenage girls drove in to get gas. The guy adding air to his tire noticed the girls. He got back into his car, revved his engine to get the girls attention, and punched the gas. Unfortunately, the poor kid had the car in “reverse” and drove right into the back of the store, busting up the door and breaking some windows. I suppose that’s one way to impress the girls, but probably wasn’t his intention!

SERVPRO of North Pensacola hopes Molino pets stay calm during storms
Astraphobia, Fido and Fluffy
Astraphobia is the abnormal fear of thunder and lightning. Cats and dogs may have this phobia.
It’s normal to be scared of loud noises, strange aromas, and other storm attributes. This fear becomes a phobia only when the reactions are extreme.
If a phobic pet causes major damage, or a storm floods the house, call SERVPRO of North Pensacola at (850) 466-3076 any time. Emergency service is available 24/7/365.
SERVPRO® of North Pensacola put together information about astraphobia in dogs and cats so pet lovers can help their furry companions endure the storms.
What Happens
Cats and dogs are among the many animals that feel the change in barometric pressure before a storm. Longer-haired animals may also feel static electricity charges. The flashes of lightning and the sound of thunder upset many animals.
What to Do
If the pets spend time outdoors, make sure they can get inside. They should have identification in case they get lost.
If the pet wants to hide in a safe place, that’s good for everyone. Dogs that become so anxious they hurt property or themselves should be in crates – preferably one on which they can’t break teeth. Make sure your pet is crate-trained before a storm.
Some animals feel less anxiety if they are wrapped up in a special shirt or blanket. Others may need medication.
Animal trainers can condition pets to be calmer during thunderstorms.

Lightning Damage in Molino?
7/27/2020 (Permalink)
We deal with storm damage of all kinds in Pensacola.
How Lightning Forms
Did you know that lightning is the second highest cause of death by severe weather in the United States, and that lightning strikes are more deadly than hurricanes or tornadoes? Summer thunderstorms are common in Florida and most lightning flashes start inside the cloud. If the lightning is going to strike the ground it will form a channel pointing downwards inside the cloud toward the surface. When it gets close enough, roughly a hundred yards from the ground, trees and bushes start sending sparks up to meet the electricity in the cloud. When a spark from the tree or bush connects with the electrical energy in the cloud it causes the electrical current to surge rapidly down the channel to the object that sent the spark. SERVPRO® of North Pensacola has years of experience providing storm damage cleanup and restoration services in Molino and is ready to respond to any size emergency.

Hidden Water Damage Can Occur at Anytime
A client of mine was at home in Quintette due to the outbreak of the new coronavirus and decided that cleaning out all the closets and cabinets would be a good use of her time. She knew that these chores would probably never get done if this was a normal April. But this was not a normal April and she had the time to spare.
Water Damage Emergencies Happen
As she reached into the back of the cabinet next to her washer and dryer in her laundry room, she felt damp towels and puddles of water. When she looked with a flashlight, it was evident to her that water had been leaking behind the cabinet for some time. She called SERVPRO of North Pensacola® and they were on site in four hours.
The technicians removed the cabinet and the contents from the cabinets, removed the waterlogged drywall, brought in water extraction equipment to remove the water, and installed drying equipment. The laundry room was restored to preloss condition in a very short time.

Breaking the Hold of Mold in Molino
1/30/2020 (Permalink)
Don't allow mold to take over your life.
It is impossible to entirely eliminate mold from the planet, so the best we can do is keep mold from growing. It starts as a tiny spore, but the spores are too small to see, and too tough to kill. We can get rid of growing mold because it is visible, and we can control the moisture it needs to grow.
If a home- or business-owner in or around Molino suspects or sees water damage, the person should expect mold. Call SERVPRO® of North Pensacola at 850-466-3076 or send a message online. SERVPRO is available 24/7 without exception.
Why hurry? Why SERVPRO of North Pensacola?
• Mold can start growing between 24-28 hours after exposure to moisture, so if we can deprive it of moisture earlier, the spores will not grow
• To prevent further problems, we are Faster to any size disaster
• SERVPRO has the right equipment
• The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends that homeowners who attempt to mitigate mold do so only if it covers a small area
• The EPA requires business owners to hire professionals
• If the spores land inside a wall that is not completely dry, the mold grows
• Substances that kill growing mold are harsh enough that people need to wear personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Ignoring the mold will not make it go away
? Mold grows only on surfaces that it can consume, which means the mold will destroy whatever it lives on
? The more mold there is, the more it can grow
? It is smelly
? It is unsightly
? It may trigger allergies or other problems
SERVPRO of North Pensacola will make the area look “Like it never even happened.”

Thunderstorm preparedness in Gaberonne
9/27/2019 (Permalink)
Although you cannot prevent thunderstorms, you can prepare for them.
Thunderstorms are beautiful, but they can also be dangerous. In most places, a thunderstorm can happen at any time of the year and any time of the day. They can cause severe damage to your home, business, or property in Gaberonne.
Thunderstorms can include lightning and can:
- Include winds over 50 MPH
- Create hail
- Cause flash floods
- Cause tornadoes
SERVPRO® of North Pensacola knows you cannot prevent a thunderstorm, but being prepared for one can minimize the damage:
- Know the risk for thunderstorms in Gaberonne
- Sign up for your community’s warning system
- Cut down or trim trees that may fall on your home or office
- Install surge protectors, lightning rods, or a lightning protection system
SERVPRO of North Pensacola knows you do not need to wait for the thunder.
If there is a thunderstorm warning, go inside. Once there:
- Unplug appliances
- Do not use landline phones in office or home
- Pay attention to alerts and warnings
If you can’t get inside a building:
- If you are swimming or in a boat, get to land immediately. Find shelter
- If you are in a car, don’t touch anything metal
- Avoid flooded roads. 6 inches of moving water can knock you down. One foot of moving water can sweep away your car.
A lightning strike during a thunderstorm can leave a wake of destruction in its path. This can range from minor electrical issues to fire damage. Lightning is also a major cause of injury or death from weather-related dangers.

Commercial lighting equipment safety information for Goulding
9/20/2019 (Permalink)
Office lighting is the second most common cause of commercial fires – stay safe in Goulding.
One of the most common causes of commercial fires is electrical and lighting equipment, according to the NFPA (National Fire Protection Association.) This type of fire is not easily foreseen, as the lighting equipment can appear fine on the outside of your Goulding business. SERVPRO® of North Pensacola wants to share the following information about commercial fires and how safety equipment helps to lessen the damage and assists in preventing any bodily injury:
- Wet pipe sprinklers installed in the ceilings of commercial buildings are very effective in helping to fight fire(s)
- Building sprinklers should be examined and tested every five years
- There should always be a fire extinguisher in reach inside of a commercial building and they must be checked annually to ensure they are in working order
- If an office building is on fire, exit the building immediately. Do not try to fight the fire yourself
- If there is a lot of smoke inside the building, cover your mouth and nose and do your best to not inhale any of it
In the unfortunate event that a commercial building does catch fire in Goulding, rest assured that SERVPRO of North Pensacola is prepared to help clean up any fire damage the building/area has sustained.

OSHA Guidelines for Fire Extinguisher Usage in Yniestra
9/18/2019 (Permalink)
Keep your Yniestra business safer with the knowledge of how to use a fire extinguisher.
SERVPRO® of North Pensacola knows that owning a fire extinguisher is not enough. Knowing the proper use of fire extinguishers can prevent fire from destroying lives in Yniestra.
The Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) requires that employers train their employees how and when to use fire extinguishers. OSHA does not allow untrained employees to use a fire extinguisher. They must provide the training shortly after the employee is hired, and then every year thereafter. OSHA also requires monthly inspections for fire extinguishers.
Fire extinguishers have to be placed where they cannot be moved or damaged. The carrying handle should be 3-1/2 to 5 feet above the floor.
Employees must know when to use fire extinguishers.
SERVPRO of North Pensacola suggests asking yourself these questions regarding fire extinguishers in your Yniestra business:
- Have I pulled the fire alarm?
- Can everyone get out?
- Is the fire extinguisher easy to reach?
- Do I know how to use it?
- Is the fire contained in a small area?
- Is the smoke non-toxic?
- Do I have an escape route?
If you can answer “yes” to all of the questions, it is reasonable to use the fire extinguisher.
SERVPRO of North Pensacola reminds you that fire is fast. If you cannot contain it within 30 seconds, get everyone out of the area. Call 9-1-1 once you are outside.

Remediating Mold in Gonzales
9/5/2019 (Permalink)
Don’t let mold take over your home or business.
SERVPRO of North Pensacola understands that even a tiny bit of moisture can lead to mold growing in drywall. You may not be able to see the mold growing but it is causing damage and the sooner you get rid of it, the less damage it can cause to your Gonzales home or business.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has ruled that only licensed professionals can clean any surface that has more than 10 square feet of mold. The EPA cannot know how you take care of your home or business, but you will need an inspection if you want to sell.
SERVPRO of North Pensacola is licensed in mold remediation.
Mold remediation means getting rid of the mold spores that become mold as well as fixing the root cause of the dampness.
Mold:
- Can begin growing on damp surfaces within 24 hours
- Grows from tiny spores that travel through the air
- Can destroy materials they grow on
- Can spread and destroy adjacent materials
SERVPRO of North Pensacola can:
- Find the source of the moisture
- Stop the moisture problem
- Remove the drywall
- Disinfect certain surfaces

Hurricane preparation and boarding your windows in Pensacola
8/31/2019 (Permalink)
Boarding your windows can prevent further interior damage.
If you are familiar with hurricanes, you know that these storms include heavy winds, lots of water and the potential to be extremely dangerous. SERVPRO of North Pensacola wants to remind you that there are many ways to prepare for a hurricane, including finding a secondary shelter for safety, making sure you have plenty of bottled water and non-perishable foods, extra clothing and hygiene products, etc. If you have time before one hits, one of the more important things you should try to do is board up your windows and all other glass areas of your house!
Heavy winds can send objects flying, which can result in your windows, skylights, and sliding glass doors being blown out – and you will definitely have broken glass spread throughout your home as well as the water that gets in as a result of that. Make sure you measure out the correct amount of wood you will need to cover all glass areas. One tip that most people forget about is to paint the wood with an exterior primer and paint to prevent moisture damage. Secure the wood with galvanized screws and make sure your safety plan is in place. Hurricane Dorian is on its way and SERVPRO of North Pensacola wants you to stay as safe as possible, but do not hesitate to call us if our services are needed, especially if you have storm damage inside your home!

SERVPRO of North Pensacola wants to share these tips from FEMA. You can try to fight a small fire only if:
- You have alerted others in the building that there is a fire
- Someone has called the fire department
- You are physically able to use a fire extinguisher
- The fire is small and contained (like a wastebasket)
- You are safe from the fire’s smoke
- You have a clear escape route
How to Use a Fire Extinguisher: SERVPRO of North Pensacola suggests you remember
PASS:
Pull the pin. Hold the extinguisher with the nozzle pointing away from you and release the locking mechanism
Aim at the base of the fire
Squeeze the lever slowly and evenly
Sweep the nozzle side to side

Difference in Arson and Intentional Fires in Ferry Pass
8/30/2019 (Permalink)
Prevent fires by raising awareness of primary causes.
SERVPRO of North Pensacola wants you to be aware of the causes of fire damage and fire injuries so that you can help prevent them.
Causes of Fires in Ferry Pass:
- Arson & intentional fires. An “intentional fire” is one that is not set to cause harm, but it gets out of control. Arson is a fire that is set to cause harm. Most of the time, arson and intentional fires are set outside. Deaths, injuries, and fire damage usually happen indoors
- Candles
- Kitchen fires are the leading cause of home fire injuries and home fire damage
- Use all electrical equipment according to the directions
- Heating equipment is the second most common cause of death in home fires
- December, January, and February are the months that have the most home heating fires
- Cigarettes, cigars, pipes, and other smoking materials are the biggest cause of fire deaths in the U.S. Think of preventing tragedy when explaining why to quit smoking
- Children should never be left alone with matches, lighters, candles, or other dangerous materials. Children playing with fire cause hundreds of deaths and injuries every year
Please pay attention to fire safety. While we can help to restore your home or office, prevention and family safety should always come first. Share this blog with a friend who might want to learn more about fire prevention.

A leading cause of fire damage and fire injuries in the home come from cooking equipment. SERVPRO of North Pensacola wants to be there for you if this ever happens in your home.
SERVPRO of North Pensacola shares these tips to help prevent fire damage. They make more sense than not cooking at home.

Cleaning Smoke and Soot Damage in Quintette
8/27/2019 (Permalink)
Even a small kitchen fire can leave a big mess.
SERVPRO of North Pensacola can clean up damage from smoke and soot in your Quintette home.
Smoke is a mixture of gases and small particles. The small particles are also called ash, and they include soot.
Soot is the collection of particles left from incomplete burning of products that contain carbon. These products include wood and coal.
Smoke and soot do not destroy materials the way fire does. They leave behind greasy films and have an unpleasant odor.
Smoke moves from warmer areas to cooler areas. You will find smoke and soot damage on the ceiling above where the fire started, but you will find the damage in other places. SERVPRO of North Pensacola looks for damage in/on:
- Outside walls and windows: Even if the fire was in the center of the room, smoke travels to the cooler areas
- Closed-off spaces: Smoke and soot settle in cooler areas, including dresser drawers, closed closets, and wall cavities
- Air ducts: smoke and soot travel throughout the house
- Drapes and blinds. The drapes and blinds are cooler than other parts of the house. During a fire, the areas behind the drapes and blinds are cooler than the rest of the room. Remember that smoke travels to the cooler areas, leaving behind smoke and soot.
SERVPRO of North Pensacola investigates these areas to get a good idea of what kind of damage is in the building.

Storm Evacuation with Disabilities in Yniestra
7/25/2019 (Permalink)
Be prepared when a storm hits your Yniestra home.
SERVPRO of North Pensacola has these tips for people in our community dealing with disabilities during an evacuation. You may want to consider, during times of flooding, to pack a bag to have ready in case the worst happens.
Plan for backup if you have your own car. A storm or flood may damage your car.
Ask your healthcare provider to suggest what specific devices you might need if you needed to evacuate due to an emergency:
- Where can I get medical supplies?
- How I do get accessible transportation?
- If medical help is needed, where would I go?
- Does this facility have a disability ramp access?
Items to bring with you:
- Written list for emergency contacts
- List of all medications, dosages, and allergies
- Style & serial number of medical devices
- Supply of medical equipment
- Extra battery for a power wheelchair
- Any cushions or padding
- Wheelchairs, canes, braces, etc.
- Medical bracelets
- Medical insurance cards
- List and/or supply of prescription medications
Our service animals are also affected by storm damage. For people who have service animals in Yniestra, consider:
- Packing extra food, water, & other supplies for the service animal
- Tell emergency responders that your service animal travels with you
- Shelters and other buildings may not refuse entry to a service animal

Dehumidifying Your Home
3/1/2019 (Permalink)
Make sure everything is running smoothly and functioning properly to help circulate air flow, and if you need help with an inspection you can always call SERVPRO of North Pensacola. We’ll also help check your vents, filters, and make sure everything is in good working condition.
If you do discover mold growing in your home, it should be dealt with immediately - it can be harmful to your home and your health. Call SERVPRO of North Pensacola at 850-466-3076 and our quick response team will be there to begin the mold remediation process right away.

Smoke and Soot Cleanup
3/9/2017 (Permalink)
Smoke and soot is very invasive and can penetrate various cavities within your home, causing hidden damage and odor. Our smoke damage expertise and experience allows us to inspect and accurately assess the extent of the damage to develop a comprehensive plan of action.
Smoke and soot facts:
- Hot smoke migrates to cooler areas and upper levels of a structure.
- Smoke flows around plumbing systems, seeping through the holes used by pipes to go from floor to floor.
- The type of smoke may greatly affect the restoration process.
Different Types of Smoke
There are two different types of smoke–wet and dry. As a result, there are different types of soot residue after a fire. Before restoration begins, SERVPRO of North Pensacola will test the soot to determine which type of smoke damage occurred. The cleaning procedures will then be based on the information identified during pretesting. Here is some additional information:
Wet Smoke – Plastic and Rubber
- Low heat, smoldering, pungent odor, sticky, smeary. Smoke webs are more difficult to clean.
Dry Smoke – Paper and Wood
- Fast burning, high temperatures, heat rises therefore smoke rises.
Protein Fire Residue – Produced by evaporation of material rather than from a fire
- Virtually invisible, discolors paints and varnishes, extreme pungent odor.

- Contact SERVPRO of North Pensacola for mold remediation services.
What Not to Do:
- Don’t touch or disturb the mold.
