Where Did the Water Come From?
11/5/2021 (Permalink)
When water damage strikes, the first thing you will want to do is stop the water intrusion, reducing the amount of damage sustained. Determining the source of the water may not always be immediately apparent, so it is important to be aware of some of the most “common culprits” for water intrusion and damage:
- Appliance Failure – a leaking dishwasher, refrigerator, or washing machine can go unnoticed until the damage becomes heavy. Periodically check your appliances for any breaks in supply or drain lines, disconnected or loose lines, or any other malfunctions that could lead to a leak.
- Plumbing Issues – piping issues, especially in older structures, can cause severe damages in a short amount of time. Watch for any signs of plumbing issues, including discoloration of water, odd changes in water pressure, or leaks underneath sinks that may signify a larger issue with your plumbing.
- Rainwater Intrusion – clogged gutters, roof damages, or improperly sealed windows and doors can all allow rainwater to enter the interior of a structure. Water staining on ceiling or walls can signify a leak from the exterior, and should be addressed immediately to prevent further, larger damages.
