Fire Prevention Week is Coming!
The week of October 4th marks Fire Prevention Week, a program sponsored by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) designed to raise awareness and educate the public about potential home fire hazards and how to prevent them.
This year’s theme is “Serve Up Fire Safety in the Kitchen.” The NFPA decided on this topic as more families are eating in this year due to the new coronavirus, COVID-19 pandemic and cooking fires are the number one cause of home fires in the United States.
SERVPRO® of North Pensacola has been serving the Molino community for years and offers some cooking fire prevention tips from the NFPA:
- Stay in the kitchen when you are cooking.
- If you are cooking food, check it regularly and stay in the home.
- If a small grease fire starts, slide the lid over the pan and turn off the burner and leave the pan covered until it’s cool.
- Keep flammable items away from your stovetop.
- Wear short, close-fitting, or tightly rolled sleeves when cooking
- Have a “kid-free zone” of at least 3 feet around the stove.
