Age

Yes, aging gets to all of us, even to inanimate objects. Seals around water connectors and pipe connections break or wear out over time. When the pipes are underground or behind walls, the only way to know there is a problem is when the problem becomes large. Corrosion of the pipes themselves also causes leaks.

Loose Water Connectors

Whether from poor construction, age, or invasive tree roots, water connectors may become loose enough to allow leaks without bursting.

Excess Water Pressure

Pipes are built to withstand certain amounts of water pressure and no more. If someone is clever enough to find a way to increase the water pressure, that person should be clever enough not to do it. The increase can lead to either slow leaks or burst pipes, both of which cause enough water damage to discourage anyone from trying it.
