Older than Dirt?

We’re an established business, but not that old. A friend recently told us about running into a teacher she had in junior high. The friend remembered the teacher as being “older than dirt”, so she was surprised to see the person was quite a bit younger than that. She realized that when she was in junior high, the teacher was younger than her (the friend’s) grown children are.

Other Expressions:

• “Get the dirt on someone”: learn the gossip, preferably not flattering
• “Strike pay dirt” means to find something useful, especially after doing a tough search
• “Do dirt, get dirt” – therefore, treat people with respect
• “Down in the dirt with…” It’s doing the basic work – it isn’t theory
